UPDATED 5.15PM: The road has now reopened and traffic is returning to normal.
A MAJOR road is currently closed due to an accident.
The A64 westbound is closed with slow traffic due to accident between the B1248 York Road and Musley Bank turn off for Malton and Barnygate Lane.
The eastbound carriageway remains open, but drivers are being asked to avoid the area if at all possible.
It's not known whether anyone has been injured.
North Yorkshire Police say that a diversion is now in place.
A police spokesperson said: "We're currently dealing with an RTC on the A64 westbound carriageway and traffic travelling westbound is being diverted via Huttons Ambo.
"Eastbound carriageway is still open but please proceed with care.
"Thank you for your patience."
