TWO “cheeky” twins from North Yorkshire have raised a staggering amount to support Cancer Research in their dad’s honour - after support from a national celebrity.

Tom and Mark Burke, from Selby, have set themselves the task of running 5k to fundraise for Cancer Research - after their dad was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer.

Tom, 20, said: “We decided to try to make our dad proud while we still can and to make a difference to cancer research.

“His cancer is incurable, so for every day we have with him, for as long as that is, our promise is to make him laugh.”

Speaking on why they chose the 5k distance, which they are set to complete on June 5 around their local area, Tom added: “We are both quite big lads - so 5k isn’t that easy for us.”

The pair and their challenge have already received national coverage, as renowned Radio X presenter, Chris Moyles, shared their story on his show - describing them as the “cheeky twosome”.

The brothers started out with just £20 on their donation page before the radio presenter decided to give them a shout-out.

This has resulted in their donations sky-rocketing - reaching more than £18,000. Originally, the pair aimed to raise £530 - £10 for each year of their dad's age.

“We get hundreds of messages saying how we brighten people’s day. Most importantly for us it brightens our dad's days”, Tom went on to say.

This is not the first time Radio X has helped out the brothers, as Chris Moyles helped them to raise money to purchase their first car three years ago when they were 17.

They have been sharing their progress training for the challenge on their social media pages including on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

One of the brothers' “entertainment” videos, which Tom said "people seem to love", totted up more than 150,000 views.

Chris has also been updating his audience by sharing their videos on the station’s website.
