PEOPLE should make the most of sunshine in York today before heavy rain sweeps in tomorrow, spoiling bank holiday Monday.

Fine if cool weather yesterday afternoon brought crowds of people to pavement cafes and beer gardens across the city centre and today should see more sunny spells through the day, although scattered showers are likely this afternoon as cloud builds.

Tomorrow will be cloudy, with rain pushing in through the morning, which will become widespread, heavy and persistent through the afternoon.

Much of next week will see more chilly, breezy weather, but forecasters think high pressure will subsequently re-establish itself over or near the UK, with growing amounts of sunshine through May and temperatures gradually rising.
