A MAN from York remains in police custody following a stabbing in the city last night.

North Yorkshire Police received a report at 9.05pm last night (April 28) that a 52-year-old man from York had been stabbed in the Walmgate area of  the city. The victim received non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, where he was treated and later released, police said.

A spokesperson for the force said: "A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and police enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding what officers describe as an “isolated incident”. There are no known risks to the wider public.

"An area near to the Castle car park in York has been cordoned off,  to allow officers to conduct a full investigation."
