CYCLISTS provided a guard of honour to say farewell to Pete Smith, the Olympic cyclist from York who died in a tragic accident.
Pete, 76, from Fulford, died last month in a cycling accident just outside York.
His funeral took place on Tuesday. An inquest is expected to take place into his death.
Cyclists followed the hearse to York Crematorium to bid Pete a final farewell.
Pete, a member of Clifton Cycling Club, was one of three friends from York to represent GB in the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. Pete's shirt from the games was draped over his coffin.

Pete's step son Mark Steel took a video of the procession and asked The Press share it with readers because Covid restrictions meant the number of mourners allowed at the funeral were minimal.
Following the funeral service, flowers were taken to a church in Farndale, where other family members were buried.
The flowers were arranged by Mark's friend, Gary Hayes of Wigginton Nurses.
Mark said he was sharing the photos and video so friends and family who could not attend the funeral would "appreciate seeing how wonderful Peter's final journey was".
