POLICE have warned against complacency after revealing they have issued a 'disappointing' 34 fines in the past week for Covid rule breaches in York and North Yorkshire.

Chief Inspector Charlotte Bloxham, North Yorkshire Police's operational lead for the Coronavirus pandemic, said today that the majority of fixed penalty notices were issued for indoor gatherings.

They were mainly issued in the Scarborough area but three were handed out in York and four in the Harrogate district.

She said the number of fines was disappointing when compared with only seven having been issued last week, and said it was vital people guard against complacency in the battle against the coronavirus, which was most likely to spread indoors.

She added that police had not seen any significant issues at licensed premises across the county.
