A MAN has been arrested after a suspected racially motivated attack.

North Yorkshire Police say they are appealing for witnesses and information about an assault in Harrogate which is believed to have been racially aggravated.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the incident and officers are keen to hear from members of the public who intervened to try to protect the victim, and anyone else with information about the incident on Oxford Street.

A police spokesman said: "At 10.30pm on Thursday (22 April), two men approached a security guard. He was assaulted but fortunately he was not injured in the attack.

"Both men are described as white. One had distinctive long, black curly/wavy hair.

"The man who was arrested was later released from custody under investigation while enquiries are ongoing.

"We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"In particular, we are appealing for information from the outstanding members of the public whom have been identified through enquiries, who intervened and prevented further attacks."
