The proposal to form a new football European Super League must be opposed.

The six English clubs included in the proposal are the same ones who, several years ago, complained about fixture congestion and lobbied for the Premier League to be reduced from 22 teams (42 games) to 20 teams (38 games).

Now they want to add an additional 38 games (20 teams) to be played midweek in addition to the Premier League (also 38 games) and both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup - potentially upwards of 85 games a season. Add to this pre-season friendlies and international games and it is clear this is unsustainable.

The underlying intention is clear: these clubs want to piggy back on the back of English football until the European league is established and then they will walk away from English soccer altogether. Better to kick them out immediately or stop the new European league.
