MARKET traders and cyclists will be barred from using their vehicles on a city centre road so that it can become an open air cafe.

Patrick Pool will be closed to them from this weekend until the middle of May.

City of York Council has added the ban to traffic restrictions already in place on the road so that tables and chairs can be put on the carriageway.

It is the latest openair cafe area to be opened up to enable people to eat and drink in the open air.

Patrick Pool runs from Church Street to Newgate.

The ban on market trader vehicles and cyclists will last until the next stage of the gradual relaxation of lockdown restrictions.

This weekend, the city centre was busy with many people sitting outdoors to eat and drink as cafes and restaurants put their tables and chairs outside in several streets.

Currently indoor dining is not allowed other than in people's own homes.
