A DRUG driver is off the roads after he overtook a police car at more than 90mph.

Julia Birtwell, prosecuting, said officers pulled Arthur Cotterell, 24, over on the A1(M) near Wetherby on October 25.

A drug test revealed he had traces of cannabis in his body.

Defence solicitor, Kevin Blount said Cotterell had been visiting his girlfriend who was at university.

He was heading south to his home when he was stopped.

He had taken cannabis but not within the period when it would affect how he drove, said the solicitor.

Cotterell could lose his job as a result of the court case.

He had to have transport for work and lived in a rural area.

Cotterell of Tanners Way, Hunsdon near Ware, Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to drug driving.

He was banned from driving for 12 months at York Magistrates Court.

He was fined £500 and ordered to pay a £50 statutory surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
