A PHARMACY in York is working towards opening a new Covid vaccination centre to "play its part in beating the virus".

The Priory Pharmacy in Acomb, led by couple Ashley and Nikki Cohen, has been supporting the York community for over 12 years.

The team at the pharmacy are working towards setting up a new Covid vaccine hub in the building to support the local community in accessing the NHS vaccination programme.

Mr Cohen, who also runs two pharmacies in Leeds, said: "We all want to play our part in beating the virus.

"The Priory pharmacy team now have an important role to play to ensure that everyone in the local and wider communities can access the vaccine - and at a time convenient to them."

The new clinics, run by the pharmacy, will take place at the Cornlands Road site and will supplement some of the larger vaccination hubs. It will be available for people in cohorts 10,11 and 12 - who will be able to book in directly for their vaccine via the online national booking system once their cohort is opened.

The Priory Pharmacy is open seven days a week - and until 11pm from Monday to Saturday.

Mrs Cohen, who is overseeing the staffing and logistics for the clinics, said: "We hope that we will be able to put on clinics outside normal working hours so that all the cohorts being invited for vaccination will be able to access a site near to where they live."

As part of the programme, the team are looking to recruit volunteers to take on various roles including marshalling and stewarding.

The roles will cover meeting, greeting and directing people, monitoring numbers and appointments as well as overseeing social distancing measures.
