RESIDENTS in a York street were so pleased when it was resurfaced and repainted with ‘Slow’ warning signs that they cut a ribbon to mark the completion of the project.

City of York Council’s workers were praised by householders in Grange Street, off Fulford Road, for their friendly and efficient work .

One resident, Christopher Rainger, said locals had been complaining about the dire state of their road for many years and even raised a petition in an attempt to get it resurfaced.

“This came to a head early in the new year when multiple and deep potholes were made much worse by the winter weather,” he said.

“Residents piled pressure on their councillors, Andy D’Agorne and Dave Taylor, not just to resurface the road, but also to try to reduce the speed of vehicles speeding through the narrow gap between parked cars.

“Suddenly we heard that a resurfacing scheme was being proposed, which included additional white lining and SLOW painted on the tarmac at each end of the road.”

Another resident praised the ‘friendly’ workmen’ for their excellent work.

A council official said the project had been straightforward thanks to the consideration of residents, but apologised if any inconvenience was caused.

“I hope everyone is happy with the new road surface and the works in general but if there are any issues please do let me know,” he said.

Fishergate councillor Dave Taylor said the resurfacing was ‘great news’ and thanked council colleagues for bringing the work to the conclusion.

He added that as ward councillors, Cllr D’Agorne and he supported residents’ desires to make the street safer for pedestrians.
