TWO teenagers have been arrested after a violent incident in York left a 16-year-old boy needing hospital treatment.

North Yorkshire Police said the disorder happened near Little Knavesmire on Albemarle Road at about 8.20pm.

"It was reported that dozens of young people were in the area at the time," said a force spokesperson.

"Officers have arrested an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy in connection with the incident," they said.

"They are currently being questioned in custody while enquiries continue.

"The Neighbourhood Policing Team are on patrol in the area to engage with members of the community and will continue to address local concerns."

They said local residents were being asked to help police with their investigation, particularly those living in the areas of Albemarle Road, Philadelphia Terrace, Adelaide Street and Ovington Cricket Club.

"They are asked to check any private CCTV or doorbell cameras which may have captured the incident or those involved," they said.

Anyone with information is being asked to phone 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room or, if they would prefer to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or make on online report at www.crimestoppers-uk.org, quoting reference number 12210094979.

The Little Knavesmire Twitter account tweeted that there had again been 'large scale disorder and violence,' adding:" I’d be amazed if nobody was seriously hurt. Honestly we give up. We’ve asked for help, engaged in dialogue. I’ll say it one last time .. Something really serious will happen so If you’re in a position to do so, help.

It claimed people were being dropped off in cars to get involved in the trouble and parents were picking up their kids who must have called them to get away.

It claimed there was 'needless, entirely avoidable violent disorder, criminal damage and serious injury. What happens next is the police are here for a day and then it’s business as usual next week with the inevitable tragic outcomes.'
