A NEW Covid testing site is to open in western York later this month.

The latest symptom-free testing site will be launched at Foxwood Community centre on Monday April 12, joining existing sites at the University of York, York St John University and the York Stadium Leisure Complex.

City of York Council said Each site will now act as a collection point for home testing kits by appointment only.

"A slot can be booked at www.york.gov.uk/SymptomFreeCovidTest or by calling 01904 551559 and spaces are available from April 7,"they said.

"Home tests should not be taken if you are experiencing symptoms and school and college pupils should continue to collect from their education settings.

"Residents of any age who have Coronavirus symptoms can book a test through www.nhs.uk/Coronavirus or by calling 119 and self-isolate until receiving results. The symptoms of Coronavirus are a continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of or change in the sense of taste or smell."

Fiona Phillips, Assistant Director of Public Health said: “1 in 3 cases of Coronavirus have no symptoms. Having regular symptom-free tests helps us to identify those who could be spreading the virus unknowingly and protects people.

“We are hugely grateful to those taking regular tests."
