FISHERGATE Primary School’s kitchens could be in for a complete refurbishment.

“The proposals are for a complete refurbishment of the existing first floor kitchen,” says an application lodged with city planners by City of York Council.

“The kitchen equipment and existing wall, floor and ceiling finishes will be stripped out completely.

“The proposed kitchen layout includes modifications to the existing recent partition walls. A new cooking area is to be installed (and) a new ventilation system will be incorporated.

“There (are) currently two double swing doors from the main hall into the servery room. It is proposed to retain both and lock one shut and board over internally. This will be carefully and sympathetically done by inserting a timber frame and ply boarding over the opening on the inside face.

The school fire alarm would also be refurbished and upgraded, but there would be no changes or alterations to the main school building, which is grade II listed.

Other recent planning applications received include: Conversion of the upper floors of the former Links of London jewellers on the corner of Stonegate and High Petergate into two flats, with a dormer window extension facing Stonegate. Shop fittings would be removed, along with a 20th century staircase between the ground and first floors. The application includes a new spiral staircase between the second and third floors. The ground floor would remain as a shop.
