POLICE are appealing for witnesses and information about an incident involving criminal damage and assault in York.

The incidents happened in Albemarle Road between 8.15pm and 8.30pm yesterday (March 31) and involved two male victims being assaulted and five cars being damaged, police said.

Police said one of the victims was taken to hospital with swelling to his eye and cuts and grazes to his face. He was taken to York Hospital and later discharged following treatment.

North Yorkshire Police are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for information about a large group of youths in the Albemarle Road area. In particular, we are appealing for information for the identity of a male, wearing a grey tracksuit top and grey tracksuit shorts. The male was also believed to be wearing black trainers and black ankle socks and wearing a light coloured cap."
