THE farmer behind York Maze has claimed he plans to make his famous puzzle out of banana bushes.

York Maze owner Tom Pearcy came a cropper with killjoy health and safety officials this week when it was revealed he plans to make his famous maze out of banana bushes, rather than corn plants.

Tom explained: “Global warming has meant that Yorkshire now has the perfect climate for growing bananas, so I thought I would give it a try. I didn’t think anyone would notice as they look very similar to corn cobs but taste much better!”

Tom believes that a corn crazy customer got wind of his plans and alerted the authorities.

He said: “A bunch of health and safety people came out for an emergency visit raising corncerns about the risk of slips and trips from discarded banana skins. It’s political cornrectness gone mad!”

Farmer Tom has now been forced to go back to the drawing board for his plans for this summer’s York Maze.

“I might try planting a marshmallow maze instead” he continued.

"You’re not going to slip on those sticky things!”

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic York Maze was not able to open last summer but Maze Master Tom Pearcy is hopeful he will be able to open the popular attraction this year... just not with banana plants (April Fools!)
