PARKING charges are set to come back in to force at some council car parks.

Ryedale District Council has nine short and long stay car parks across the district including in Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Pickering, Helmsley and Norton.

Parking has been free of charge since December 9.

Phillip Spur, Programme Director for Economic Development, Business and Partnerships at Ryedale District Council, said: “We thank everyone who has taken advantage of the free parking offer to support our town centres and local businesses in line with government restrictions.

“As some coronavirus restrictions are now being cautiously eased, the time is right to reintroduce parking charges. We hope that people will continue to visit their high streets safely and shop locally.”

The council say they will be cleaning the payment machines daily and have marked 2 metre safe distances by them, to help people stay safe.
