Acomb firefighters had a busy evening dealing with a series of fires in public spaces in and around York yesterday.
They started with a fire at about 7.30pm in a playpark off Foxwood Lane, Foxwood, in which a school book and photos were burnt.
Exactly an hour after they put it out with a bucket of water, the firefighters were dealing with a second fire, this time of rubbish burning on The Green, Green Hammerton.
Knaresborough firefighters also responded to this fire which, after the emergency crews had made a safety assessment, was allowed to burn out.
At midnight Acomb firefighters were back in Foxwood Lane, this time to put out a fire that had been started with a plastic bag. It was burning scraps from a takeaway shop. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.
