UPDATED 7AM: Police say that thankfully, none of the residents were injured in the fire.

Emergency services have now left the scene and the building has been boarded up and secured.

A spokesman said: "We would like to thank local residents for their patience and co-operation.

"The woman who was arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody at this time."

 

ALL three emergency services are at the scene of a fire in a York suburb.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service as well as the police and ambulance are at a flat fire in Fossway in Heworth in York. 

In this video taken by a local resident thick black smoke can be seen billowing from an upstairs window.

North Yorkshire Police say Fossway is now closed at the Montrose Avenue and Pottery Lane junctions. The road has been closed since about 2.30pm.

A spokesman said: "Emergency services are working at the scene of a fire in a property in Fossway and members of the public are urged to avoid the area.

"A woman in her thirties has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"Thank you for your co-operation at this time."

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from York, Acomb and Huntington including an aerial ladder platform attended reports of a first floor flat on fire.

"Crews set up covering jets outside the property and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets and extinguished the fire and carried out a search of the building to check for people.

"It was confirmed that all people were accounted for. At around 2:45pm the incident was scaled back to one fire engine. The other attending fire engines left the scene between 2.45pm-3.10pm and the last fire engine left at around 4pm. A fire investigation officer remains at the scene."
