EMERGENCY services were called in to an incident on a York bridge.
At about 10.45pm last night North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue's Station Manager Tony Walker said crews from York and Acomb assisted police and ambulance at an incident on Clifton Bridge where someone was at risk of going in the river Ouse.
The person was eventually helped back over the railings to safety.
He said: "Police did an amazing job in a challenging situation."
The road reopened shortly after.
