UPDATED 10AM SATURDAY: Hallfield Road in Layerthorpe has reopened this morning.
A CRANE left dangling precariously over a road just outside York city centre has been made safe.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said they were called to the scene just before 2pm.
He said: "A recovery crane was requested and it and it and the aerial ladder platform were used to make the broken crane safe."
As we reported earlier today a crane part collapsed over Hallfield Road in Layerthorpe.
Hallfield Road remains closed both ways from James Street to Redeness Street.
Emergency services, including the York fire crew and North Yorkshire Police were on the scene to deal with the incident.
Surrounding routes may be affected from diverted traffic until the road reopens.
