THERE  still are severe delays on a major motorway this morning after a van set on fire following a crash.

The vehicle was alight on the M62 westbound carriageway, between junction 23 (Huddersfield) and junction 22 (Rishworth Moor).

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said there was a road traffic collision involving two vehicles, prior to the fire.

There were no injuries.

Highways England officers had to shut two of three lanes initially at around 6.19am, but lane two reopened at around 7.30am.

Lane one remained closed for another two hours, before the carriageway was cleared and all vehicles were recovered at 9.32am.

Highways England warned that there is still around 6.5 miles of congestion.

At the height of the incident, traffic was queuing for for eight miles, stretching back to junction 25 (Brighouse).

This was adding 60 minutes onto people's journeys.
