NEARLY 50 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in one area of York over a seven day period recently, while the data for another area is "suppressed" because it's had so few cases.

An interactive map, updated daily by Public Health England, today shows data for the seven days to November 13 - the most recent time period available.

The data reveals that the Fulford, Heslington and University area had the highest number of new Covid-19 cases in the city during that period, with 49.

There were 34 cases confirmed in Fulford Road & Clementhorpe, 20 in both Huntington and Wigginton, 19 in Holgate West, 18 each in Tang Hall, Clifton North, Woodthorpe & Acomb Park and Holgate East, 16 in Poppleton, Rufforth & Askham, 15 in York city centre and in Strensall, while there were 14 in both Acomb and Clifton Without & Skelton.

In addition, there were 13 in Heworth North & Stockton, 12 in Westfield, Chapelfields & Foxwood, ten in Bishopthorpe & Copmanthorpe, ten also in South Bank & Dringhouses, nine in Osbaldwick, eight in Haxby and in Rawcliffe & Clifton South, seven in Heworth South & The Groves, three in Dunnington, Elvington & Wheldrake, and the data for New Earswick is suppressed.

The map's key states: "Data suppressed to protect the privacy of individuals and prevent disclosure."

It gives no further information but PHE says elsewhere that MSOA ( Middle layer Super Output Areas) level rates are suppressed where there have been fewer than three cases in a seven-day period to protect privacy and prevent disclosure.
