A TEENAGER is fighting for her life in hospital after a car crashed into a tree in rural Northumberland.

Police received a report that a silver Nissan Pixo had collided with a tree at the Moorhouse Crossroads near the village of Edlingham, between Rothbury and Alnwick, at about 8.30pm on Monday.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 18-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital.

The 17-year-old’s injuries are described as life-threatening and she remains in a critical condition in hospital. The 18-year-old driver was treated in hospital for a shoulder injury but he has since been released.

Following his release, he was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Inspector Lynne Mckevitt, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols Department, has now appealed for anyone who may have seen the vehicle on Monday evening to contact police.

She said: “This is a very serious collision and a teenage girl continues to fight for her life in hospital.

“As you can imagine, this is a distressing time for her family and we are carrying out enquiries so we can find out exactly what has happened.

“Those inquiries are at an early stage but the driver of the vehicle has been arrested and will be interviewed about the circumstances of the collision.

“Now we need to speak to anyone who may have see the Nissan Pixo being driven in the area of the B6341, Alnwick to Rothbury road, on Monday evening.

“If you were driving in the area and have any dash-cam footage then we would ask you to review it to see if you captured the vehicle in question.

“Any piece of information, no matter how small, could help us build up a picture of what happened.”

Anyone who wants to report information to the police can do so online at the Northumbria Police website quoting log 1095 26/10/20 or by calling 101.
