A YORK secondary school has confirmed another coronavirus case.

It is the sixth confirmed Covid-19 case at Huntington School.

A "small number" of children have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.

On Thursday, headteacher John Tomsett sent a letter to parents, carers and staff confirming a fifth case.

Today (Friday), he has sent out another letter saying there has been a sixth case.

The letter said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school.

"This is our sixth confirmed case and is within a different year bubble to our first five cases. It was not transmitted at school.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (Covid-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days."

The school remains open and pupils should continue to attend as normal if they are well, the letter added.
