FIREFIGHTERS from Basingstoke were called to a chimney fire on Worting Road this evening - causing temporary closure of the road and a warning to drivers to avoid the area.
The call came in at 8.21pm and one pump was dispatched from the fire station, but a second was later called on due to the need for an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) to reach the flames.
At 9.31pm, Basingstoke Fire Station wrote on Twitter: “We are currently in attendance at a chimney fire on Worting Road. We’re unable to fight it from the hearth, so having to use the ALP.”

The team also posted a photo from the scene, showing the equipment being set up outside the house on Worting Road, and barriers blocking cars from passing the rescue vehicles.
This was followed by a tweet at 9.42pm from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, which read: “Basingstoke currently in attendance in Worting Road dealing with a chimney fire. Road is closed off, so please find an alternative route if you are in the area.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that the end call came at 10.02pm, with both vehicles returning from the scene shortly after.
Nobody was hurt in the fire, which was extinguished by the team, and Worting Road reopened to cars shortly after 10pm.
One witness told the Gazette there was “no smell of smoke nor sign of flames.”
The fire service spokesperson said that the majority of chimney fires remain contained within the chimney when firefighters are able to attend to them quickly, as was the case in this incident.
