North Yorkshire Fire Service Control Room received calls about black smoke over Bad Bargain Lane.
Fire officers are dealing with a large rubbish fire which has caused black plumes of smoke to fill the sky over part of York.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Control Room received a number of calls to reports of smoke over Bad Bargain Lane at about 3pm today, said a spokeswoman.
A crew attended the scene to investigate, and used a hose reel jet to put out a large refuse fire, she added.
