A FORMER Barrow Sixth Form Student has offered a number of tips to current A Level students to deal with the stress of receiving their A Level results.

Tomorrow scores of students across the UK and Cumbria will receive their results after two years of hard work, however many will receive them under unique circumstances.

A large chunk of Cumbria students will receive their results via email rather than attending their college to collect them.

Former student and current Furness College student liaison officer Liam Edgley, who received his results last year, has given the current crop of students some tips to deal with the day.

He said: “Results day is massively emotional. You may have important decisions to make so it’s best to give yourself the best chance of thinking clearly.

“A good breakfast and some decent sleep will help massively on the day.

“Collecting results can be very nerve-wracking. Bring along a friend or family member to wait outside for you. “That way, there’s someone there to either celebrate with you or look after you and help you make decisions.

“You will have had an appointment time by letter and should stick to this time.

“Staff have been through results day tons of times before. They know exactly how to help.

“If you’re a bit down about your results then I’d speak to a staff member, it might just be that they can offer some advice on your next steps.”

Mr Edgley has also urged students to set aside time to spend with their families after they have received results.

He also assured students that there are other options and tomorrow’s results aren’t the end of the world.

He added: “Results day is one of the most important days of the year. You’ll quite possibly be shattered after it. “Make sure you spend some time celebrating and chilling out with your family, or friends, afterwards. Big celebrations can always wait until the next day.

“If the results don’t go as planned then it’s important that you’ve got some time at home with people who can comfort you.

“Results aren’t the end of the world. If you miss your university offer, or even if you’ve just changed your mind, then it’s important to check out other options.

“UCAS Clearing is a great way of accessing other university courses without having to redo your application. Check it out, or ask your tutors for more information.”

Furness College is holding a drop-in advice session at the Channelside campus on August 20 from noon to 5pm for expert information about next steps, including the university degree programmes that can be studied in Barrow.
