TWO East Lancashire boroughs continue to record the highest number of coronavirus cases in the county.

The latest figures reveal that 42 new cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed over the last few days, with only the Ribble Valley not reporting new cases in Monday's figures.

Blackburn and Pendle however continue to record the most new infections, with only Preston coming close having recorded seven new cases bringing the total number of infections there to 1,301.

Monday's figures revealed 21 new cases in Blackburn with Darwen, which now has an infection rate of 1,041.4 per 100,000 people - 1,559 cases in total.

In Pendle there were 12 new cases, bringing the total number infected in the borough to 687.

The next highest number came from Burnley with four new cases, followed by Rossendale with three and Hyndburn with two.

They have recorded 533, 307 and 414 cases respectively.

No new cases of COVID-19 were reported from within the Ribble Valley, the only East Lancashire borough not under new lockdown measures.
