A MAN who spent 106 days in critical care at York Hospital after contracting coronavirus has recovered enough to be moved to another ward.

A video of the man, named only as Ian, being transferred from critical care to a different ward to continue his recovery has been posted on Twitter, with his permission.

Staff lined the corridors to applaud the man.

The video was posted by a sister on the Critical Care Unit at York Hospital, and has been viewed more than 2,000 times.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust responded to the video by tweeting: "An incredible team effort!"

The trust has praised the efforts of its staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson said: "The commitment and skills of all our people, whose professionalism, and continued and sustained hard work has been unfailing in the last few months, despite the most difficult and challenging circumstances.

"We are humbled and inspired to see their dedication to all our patients.”
