A THUNDERSTORM has swept over York this evening after the hottest day of the year so far.
Camera Club member Richard Dunn sent in this picture of lightning, taken as the storm moved in over Stockton Lane.
Temperatures in the York area soared to 32C - or 90F- today.
The recording at RAF Linton on Ouse was higher than the maximums seen in Barcelona and Malaga in Spain, and Nice in France.
The mini-heatwave will not last beyond today, as the weekend promises to be much cooler and fresher, with temperatures falling by about 10 degrees to 22C tomorrow and only 20C on Sunday.
There should be sunny intervals on both days but also the chance of a shower.
