The high street is always evolving and changing- some shops are forced to close down, no matter how much we love them.

From Boydell’s to Woolworths, many Bolton-based shops have come and gone throughout the years.

Here are some that we wish could come back:

Woolworths

‘Woolies’ is a shop that many people across the UK miss. Before John Lewis started creating their iconic Christmas adverts, Woolworths were the kings of Christmas.

It truly was a shop that sold everything, including children’s clothes, CD’s and even pick n mix.

Woolworths opened its first Bolton branch in 1912 at 17-19 Oxford Street; In 1926, the shop moved to Deansgate.

The company fell into administration in December 2009 and has since been replaced by a Wilko store.

Boydell's

Many Boltonians have fond memories of scanning the aisles for toys in this shop.

The Oxford Street store was around for more than 60 years before finally closing its doors in 1996.

Blockbuster

Before the days of online streaming, movie nights started here. Now, choosing a DVD or video off the shelf is a nostalgic memory.

Blockbuster went into administration in 2010 and slowly began to disappear from our highstreets.

The firm's site in Horwich closed in 2013.

Hanbury's

This supermarket chain went into administration at the end of the millennium and was sold to the co-op.

The business dates back to 1889 when Jeremiah Hanbury opened a store in Farnworth selling butter and bacon.

This former superstore was built on the north stand in the 80s- it closed in 1997.

The store, along with the Burden Park stands, have been demolished.

How many of these shops do you remember? Let us know in the comments.
