A YORK department store has announced that it will be reopening some fitting rooms so customers can again try on clothes.

Fenwick, in the Copperagte Centre, revealed the move today (Wednesday), a few weeks after it welcomed customers back through its doors again following lockdown.

One fitting room per department OR a small number of fittings rooms will be open at the York store from a date between July 18 and 20.

To maintain social distancing measures, only one person will be permitted into a fitting room area at any time with customers being asked to queue with at least 1m between them while waiting. Access to fitting rooms will be managed by store colleagues.

All items taken to the fitting room, if not then purchased, will be quarantined for 48 hours before being returned to the shop floor.

A Fenwick spokesperson said: "Each fitting room will be thoroughly cleaned in between each use, with particular attention paid to key touchpoints such as locks, doors, handrail, garment hooks, mirrors, walls.

"Hand sanitiser will be readily available for both customer and colleagues and social distancing signs in place."

Customers can also try shoes on in any stores and will be provided with a disposable pop sock to wear. Shoes will then be thoroughly sanitised before being returned to the shop floor.

Pablo Sueiras, Fenwick retail operations director, said: “We are delighted to be able to open a few of our fitting rooms again as we gradually return to more familiar ways of shopping.

"We know it has been hard for customers who really want to try items on and see how it looks and we have put a lot of effort into ensuring that this can be done in as safe a way as possible. Now they can come in and try on before they buy once more.”
