YOUNG Guiseley defender Nathan Newall will be looking to kick on his footballing career after the club took up the option to extend his contract.

Last season, the 18-year-old signed a first team contract on his birthday after impressing for two years in the academy side.

The left back made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Altrincham and went on to make three further appearances from the bench. Towards the end of the season, Newall went on loan to Northern Premier League Division One North West team Ossett United.

For Guiseley's academy, he played 20 times, scoring on five occasions, as the young Lions ended the season with the title in their sights before the campaign was cut short due to pandemic.

The Baildon teenager joined the club's Centre of Excellence as a 14 year-old before progressing into the academy. He was recently awarded the Academy Manager's Player of the Season award.

First team manager Russ O’Neill is delight to sign the young player up for another season.

He said:"Nathan couldn’t have done anymore in his time with the academy. He had had a taste of first team football lower down the pyramid out on loan and he made his first team debut as well as training with us every week.

"I’ve told him to come back to training with the mindset that he is a first team player and not an academy player who has been given a taste of the first team environment. I am really looking forward to seeing him flourish in this next big step in his footballing life."
