PICTURES from the scene show a huge police cordon in place after a stabbing near the Blue Boar pub, in Southend.

A man was found fighting for his life after suffering stab wounds near the pub in Victoria Avenue at around 4.10am.

Since then, police cordons have been put in place which tapes off the scene from Victoria Avenue, as well as part of East Street, West Street and Colchester Road.

Donald Farringdon, 72, of Colchester Road, awoke to the sound of police sirens early this morning,

He said: "I am saddened to hear another young lad has been stabbed. It is so worrying to keep hearing of these tragic incidents - somoething has to be done.

"I had a terrible sleep last night as all I could hear was police sirens and commotion.

"When I went to get my paper and milk around 7am I was shocked to see all the roads had been closed off.

"The officers have been very good letting us residents get to the shop as it is within one of the cordons.

"I hope the young man pulls through."

Traffic is being diverted around the incident while police teams carry out investigations at the scene.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, and the victim remains in a life threatening condition.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
