A BURGLAR who broke into a department store during lockdown to steal designer clothes worth more than £2,500 has been sent back to jail.

Geoffrey Stuart Dobson, 43 had only been released from Hull Prison the day before he twice raided Barkers on Northallerton's High Street.

The store has been closed since March because of the coronavirus lockdown.

At 3.15pm on Wednesday, Dobson broke into the locked building, took designer label clothes and cycled off before returning and stealing more items.

But he was caught on CCTV and arrested the next day.

Dobson, of Prospect View, Northallerton, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for 20 weeks at York Magistrates Court sitting in Leeds. He must also pay a £128 statutory surcharge.

District judge Adrian Lower told him he was going back to jail because he had offended immediately after he had been put on post-sentence supervision and because of his previous record.

In total Dobson took more than £2,500 worth of shirts, t-shirts, shorts, hoodies and jackets with labels including Armani, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss.
