THE Reverend Michael Smith prepares to broadcast from inside York Minster.

York Minster's Canon Pastor was rehearsing a digital Evensong service inside the cathedral as the government moved towards the introduction of measures to bring the country out of lockdown.

The Minster has been closed since the start of the lockdown.

Following a change in guidance from the House of Bishops earlier this month, York Minster's clergy are now able to enter the cathedral.

The service will include readings, prayers, psalms and pre-recorded music from the York Minster Choir.

The Minster also launched a virtual stained glass window navigator website last month to enable people to explore the cathedral online while it is closed to the public during the pandemic.
