POLICE are searching for the occupants of a car who left the scene after it crashed into a parked car and caught fire in York last night.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said the collision happened at just after 7pm in Burdyke Lane and was witnessed by a crew from Acomb.

It said firefighters extinguished the fire using a hose reel and left the incident with police.

"No people were injured in this incident,"it added.

North Yorkshire Police said officers were called to a report of a collision on Water Lane, near the junction with Lilbourne Drive.

"A yellow Vauxhall Corsa collided with a parked car and caught fire," said a spokesman.

"Officers closed the road to keep people safe, and arranged for local authority engineers to attend to remove debris and make safe exposed wires from street lighting. Recovery was arranged for both damaged cars.

"The occupants of the Corsa left the scene before police arrived. Inquiries to locate them are ongoing."
