A SHARK and a seal are helping a fish recycle rubbish and keep the east Yorkshire coast tidy.

Coastal services officers have installed three new recycling facilities on the seafront of three seaside resorts and towns.

A shark shaped bin has been placed on Hornsea promenade and a seal shaped bin near East Riding of Yorkshire Council's office near North Beach, Bridlington.

Bridlington already has a fish shaped recycling facility called Ernie the fish on the South Beach.

The third newly installed recycling bin is in the shape of a lighthouse on Withernsea central promenade near Pier Towers.

All four bins can receive plastic, aluminium and paper waste.

Kirsty Salisbury, general manager (coastal), said:: “We in coastal services wanted to roll out these new facilities, because we are passionate about looking after the marine environment.

"They are a great addition to these three locations.”

All three of the new recycling points were designed by students from Scarborough TEC and made by Godhold Blacksmiths of Whitby.

The idea to make them in the shape of sea creatures was started during the Artwaves Festival in Bridlington last year.
