YORK is set to enjoy its hottest day of the year so far today, with temperatures soaring as high as 27C - but there could be thunderstorms and strong winds later in the week.
Forecasters say York and North Yorkshire will have long sunny periods today, with southerly winds feeding warm air across the UK from the Continent.
Tomorrow will be cooler but still pleasant, with a maximum of 21C, but showers, and possibly thunderstorms, are expected to develop in places.
On Friday and Saturday, an Atlantic depression to the west of the UK will cause strong westerly winds, with gusts of up to 44mph in York and up to 50mph at exposed coastal resorts such as Whitby.
However, it should still be mostly sunny, and the wind will ease on Sunday with more sunshine, and next weeks' - the Spring Bank Holiday week - is expected to see more fine and dry weather, with temperatures in the low 20s.
