John Mayo is living wild in the woods of Escrick Park in aid of Children in Need. He finally emerges tomorrow. Read his diary here in The Press.

Wednesday

After six days of no meat, things are getting serious. I feel weak and have little energy and the rumbles in the stomach are getting louder. So, desperate action required!

The solution, Road Kill'. Not pleasant, but necessary. I began to scour the nearest road to see if any of our feathered friends had forgotten their Green X Code' and my luck changed.

A male pheasant was dead by the side of the road. I grabbed him and retreated back into the wood. What joy! I set about preparing a feast. If this had been day one, the result would have scored a four but on day six, it was definitely a 10/10 as I gorged myself, so grateful to be back in carnivore mode.

I have also received two fantastic booklets from the infants and juniors at Escrick Primary School. They are both brilliant, full of pictures and letters, jokes and puzzles, so a huge thank you to all the children at the school.

Thursday morning: my final entry

THE last full day has arrived! Beyond the whole reason for undertaking a week in the woods, being to raise money for children, I have gained from this experience.

I've learned new skills and it certainly improves your confidence. When faced with the next big challenge, I will look back and say, if I can do that, then I can do this. In the same vein, it improves your mental strength and helps you keep things in perspective.

I believe someone has been watching over me this week, seven days in a wood by yourself - how much could possibly go wrong, and touch wood, nothing has.

The weather has been incredibly kind, it has been cold and damp, but it could have poured with rain all week and been freezing all the time.

I did think I would be apprehensive about being in the wood at night by myself with no torch or lantern, but someone/thing has taken all that apprehension away. I could have easily fallen sick on the poor diet, but I have not starved. So an enormous thank-you to the general manager in the sky!

This has all been about raising money for Children In Need. It has been an Escrick Park Estate team effort.

I may be the front man this time, but without the support and sponsorship of everyone else, this would not have happened and the money would not have been raised. I am very grateful to all our suppliers, contractors and friends of Escrick Park estate. I am sure what we have achieved will make a difference to a large number of children.
