AN empty shop on Stonegate could be taken over by a luxury brand.
Loake Shoes has applied for planning permission to take over the former Rohan shop at 24 Stonegate - next to The White Company.
Outdoor clothing brand Rohan moved into the former Whistles shop - on the same street.
The planning application would see the front of the shop painted, new signs installed and the inside of the store renovated.
A statement says: "Previously the shop was the York base of Rohan, who have now moved to another shop further towards the cathedral.
"Given the age and location of the property limited improvements can be undertaken to improve access for all, however, the ground floor accommodation and sales area is relatively open plan."
The building is Grade II-listed.
A heritage statement says the building dates back to the early 17th century.
It adds: "Proposals for 24 Stonegate are principally related to the new internal fit out as a Loake shoe shop.
"The majority of changes do not impact upon historic fabric, being the addition of free standing furniture and redecoration of modern surface finishes.
"One set of new partition walls, new external signage and the fitting of a condenser unit to the rear are proposed."
