A LOCAL mental health charity in York will be supporting people experiencing mental ill-health throughout the Coronavirus crisis by providing vital services.

York Mind, which normally operates from two buildings in Clifton and on Clarence Street, has responded quickly to the crisis by moving all staff members to home-working.

The charity has changed its current services so they can continue to support current clients – as well as responding to the increased numbers of people now experiencing feelings of anxiety, low mood and isolation due to the pandemic.

Over the coming months, York Mind will offer a combination of group-based and one to one support to both adults and young people, all of which will be delivered remotely.

This will include telephone counselling for adults, young people and carers, a text drop in service for young people, one-to-one and online classes to manage stress and anxiety.

They have also increased their advocacy service for those affected by COVID-19; particularly around access & difficulties with benefits, housing, financial help and mental health services.

Alyson Scott, Chief Executive of York Mind, said: “We aim to continue our work for people experiencing mental ill-health and offer an additional support for people with specific anxieties around COVID-19. We know that for some people, this may be their first experience of poor mental health. We want them to know that we are ready to help.”
