A MUSIC group, bringing together vulnerable and isolated people in York, is looking to support its members through the Coronavirus pandemic.

Musical Connections, formed 11 years ago in the city, provide a varied programme of music sessions, community choirs and singing groups across York.

The group have had to suspend all of their meetings for the foreseeable future, due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

This has left nearly 200 people feeling increasingly isolated, cut off from the friends that they have made and without any social contact.

The situation is made worse by the fact that many of them do not have online access, and so cannot take advantage of the large explosion of online musical activity that has taken place since the crisis began

Charlotte Yandell, of Musical Connections, said: “It is of paramount importance that no one feels alone during these unprecedented times.”

Musical Connections have been working to find the best ways of sustaining the community that they have created.

They are in regular phone contact with all of their members, providing both emotional and practical support.

The group’s owners are also sending regular postcards, newsletters and photos to their members and have organised some slots on York TV which their members can tune into.

For those who are able to access the internet, they have launched a regular Facebook Live slot at 11am on Wednesday mornings, and are exploring the use of Zoom for a virtual community sing-along.

Anyone looking to get involved with the group can contact them on 01903 373011 or enquiries@musicalconnections.org.uk.
