A North Yorkshire business has pledged its support for a charity which supports children with Down Syndrome.

Thixendale-based Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil has named Downright Special as their 2020 charity of the year, and hope to raise more than £2,000 for the charity which supports children in Hull and the East Riding.

The team previously raised £2,700 for Hull-based Life for a Kid Foundation.

Jennie Palmer, co-founder, said: "We asked our social media followers for suggestions for charities to support in 2020 and were overwhelmed with the volume of responses. We then polled the top three suggestions, again using social media, and were delighted that Downright Special was the clear winner.

"The charity was formed in 2007 by a group of parents who set out to provide support to each other and any other parents who had children with Down syndrome. This quickly developed into an organised group giving emotional, practical and educational support to families from birth onwards.

"Their goal is simple - to build a brighter future for children with Down Syndrome and they do this with no funding from statutory agencies, like the local authority or NHS. We can't wait to do our bit to raise funds to support them. We've lots of plans in place, so watch this space!"

The team plans to raise money through a series of events and a limited edition Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil product. It has set up a Virgin Money Giving Page which sends every donation directly to Downright Special.

Downright Special is a registered charity that assists families and professionals in all aspects of the care and education of children with Down syndrome, supporting them to achieve their full potential and promoting successful inclusion.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil was established in 2008 by Adam and Jennie Palmer on their farm in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. They produce a range of oils, dressings and mayonnaise based on their award-winning rapeseed oil that is pressed, blended, bottled and labelled on the family farm.
