New geographical boundaries go live today for a Local Enterprise Partnership.

The rebranded York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (Y&NY LEP) is in response to government guidelines, which state LEPs should not retain any overlapping boundaries with other LEPs.

The Y&NY LEP now covers eight areas: Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmond, Ryedale, Scarborough, Selby and York.

The move was ratified in January by the LEP board, when it was still known as the York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership.

The body is in talks with neighbouring LEPs – Leeds City Region and Humber LEP – to set out plans for future working and investments.

LEPs work with public and private sector partners to deliver economic growth across their areas.

For Y&NY LEP, this includes supporting businesses through the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub – which was previously known as ‘How’s Business’.

The Y&NY LEP is also creating a skilled local workforce, investing in infrastructure to unlock housing and employment sites and improve connectivity, and growing a specialist sector, the bioeconomy.
