A WOMAN, who said she “could not run to the end of the street,” a few years ago, is set to take on a half marathon to support a hospice.

Lyn Gent, who lives in Bridlington, North Yorkshire, is set to take on the Great North Run later this year in aid of Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

Lyn, 52, chose to support the Hospice as they care for both her mum and dad.

She said: “I chose Saint Catherine’s as the work and care they give is amazing.

“The staff always went that bit extra. With my dad it was all new to us and we didn’t know what to expect. They made us sandwiches and drinks and sat with us.”

Lyn, who is originally from Scarborough, has faced her own challenges on the road to becoming a regular runner.

At the age of 21, she was in a wheelchair due to fibromyalgia and in 2005 she suffered a broken pelvis after slipping and falling on ice.

In 2013, Lyn was inspired to do Race for Life and followed a ‘couch to 5K’ programme to prepare her for what would be her first ever run.

Since beginning her running, Lyn has completed a large number of races, including two Yorkshire Marathons at York and 242 park runs.

She has run every day consecutively for well over 500 days now.

Lyn is hoping to raise £250 by taking on the Great North Run – you can support her at: https://bit.ly/3bi1fUp
