CHILDREN have been creating rainbows to cheer people up - and pupils at Carr Junior School in Acomb have joined the fun.
The school remains open for children whose parents are key workers and doing essential work during the coronavirus crisis - such as nurses, supermarket staff, police officers, firefighters and doctors.
And alongside classes, teachers have been organising games and art activities to keep pupils entertained.
Youngsters used chalk to create their own giant rainbow on the school playground.
Head teacher Vicki Kerr said: "I'm incredibly proud to be the head teacher, at this moment, of a team of people who are willing to come into work to provide the care needed for children whose parents are key workers - who are out there doing such important jobs.
"I'm very proud of the whole team - we are all pulling together and still organising fun activities for the children."
