A HOMELESS charity based in York has been awarded a cash boost from a regional housebuilder.

Restore (York) received a £1,000 cash boost from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire after being named the latest beneficiary of its Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support good causes and organisations from across the region.

The York-based charity, which runs nine homes across the region, provides a space where homeless individuals can begin rebuilding their lives.

The donation has secured the charity’s outdoor activities and events calendar for its residents. This include residential and day trips and seasonal parties to help increase confidence and help rebuild the identity of residents.

Johnny Wooldridge, from Restore (York), said: “Our vision is to help rebuild the lives of individuals who have become homeless in York.

“We provide mentoring, counselling, advisory and welfare services. Our social activities and events have become a welcome break from the normal routine and have proved beneficial as part of the rebuilding process.

“We are so thankful that Persimmon Homes has chosen us to benefit from their Community Champions scheme. We are looking forward to launching our events for 2020.”

Tim Nixon, sales director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Restore (York) plays a vital role in the areas in which we build, and it is great to have been able to support them and their important work.”

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire awards two grants each month of up to £1,000 to groups, charities and organisations from across the region. This is the same for each of Persimmon Homes’ 31 geographical operating areas.

Tim added: “We’ve made it really simple to apply for funding, and we’re urging groups and charities to apply for next month’s donation by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”

Founded in 2010, Restore (York) exists to bring relief to people in need by the provision of homes for those who are, or at risk of being, homeless; and by providing mentoring, counselling, advisory and welfare services and personal development opportunities.
